Race day is never neutral
About RaceDayCast
Your goal time, adjusted for the course, the weather and the race field – with a pace plan for every kilometre.
The problem we solve
Your goal time was set for a flat course on a cool, calm day. Race day rarely looks like that. A headwind along the seafront, a bridge at 30K or a warm finish can cost you minutes – and they hit hardest when you start too fast and pay for it later. Most runners only find out at 35K.
What RaceDayCast does
RaceDayCast puts the course and the weather on top of your goal time and turns them into seconds, kilometre by kilometre. You see what race day will cost you – or give you – and get a pace plan that spreads your effort evenly: a little slower up hills and into the wind, a little faster down hills and with the wind behind you.
How we work
- Built by a running coach. Every number has to make sense to a coach before it reaches you.
- The real course. Every race is checked against the organiser's map, with elevation from national terrain models (such as USGS, IGN and Kartverket) – not noisy GPS tracks.
- Physics, not guesswork. Hills, wind, heat and drafting are each modelled from sports science and tested against real race results.
- Weather for every kilometre. The forecast from MET Norway for the time you will be there, observed weather on race day, and ten years of typical race-day weather before the forecast is out.
- Tested in real races. RaceDayCast has been tested by beta testers in races from 10K to the marathon.
About the founder
I'm Jan-Erik Haugen. I ran my first race in 1986 and my first half marathon in 1989, and I've been hooked ever since. For years I split my time between running, mountain biking and road cycling – for the last ten years or so it has been running only.
As a running coach at lopecoach.no I have helped many runners reach their goals, from a first 10K to a marathon PB.
I built RaceDayCast because I saw the same thing again and again: well-trained runners losing their race in the first 10K because nobody told them what the day would cost. RaceDayCast is the plan I'd give my own runners.
RaceDayCast is operated by SMSpass AS in Hønefoss, Norway.
